What is Overactive Bladder?

Overactive Bladder (OAB) is a symptom/syndrome defined by the International Continence Society (ICS) as ‘the presence of urinary urgency (both daytime and nighttime), usually accompanied by increased frequency and nocturia with or without urge urinary incontinence in the absence of a urinary tract infection or other obvious pathology’.

Why choose Acupuncture and TCM?

The Benefits of Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation For Overactive Bladder

Percutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS) is derived from acupuncture, used in traditional Chinese medicine, and was first described in the early 1980s. It is a series of acupuncture treatments that stimulate a nerve located behind the medial ankle bone. In Oriental medicine, this area is referred to as the Spleen and Kidney Meridian. By stimulating this area better control and relief may be achieved. This technique was approved for use in the United States by the FDA, which was presented with case studies that positively demonstrated that treating this Overactive Bladder Syndrome with acupuncture can significantly reduce or eliminate such OAB symptoms like sudden frequent urges to urinate or urine leakage from urge incontinence.

By utilizing the Kidney 3 and Spleen 6 points with electrical stimulation to relax the bladder muscle so that it can function at its optimal best. Also, by activating these two PTNS points, along with other relaxation points, we can reduce your body’s overall stress level. and by focusing on these noted constitutional points we can address the underlying root cause of your current health problems.

Individualized Attention - This simple procedure is used along with other pressure points to ensure the most positive and beneficial outcome for your individual health needs. Each acupuncture treatment is tailored to your body’s immediate and most prevalent health concerns, which is why many individuals choose acupuncture over other practices – because we focus on the symptoms AND on the body as a whole. This is the foundation of good acupuncture!
